Villeneuve-sur-Lot



Founded in 1253 by Alphonse de Poitiers, on the border of Perigord and Guyenne, Villeneuve sur Lot was built on the site of the town of Gajac, which had been deserted during the Albigensian crusade. It was one of the largest and most powerful walled town in the whole South West of France.
Discover the beauty of this charming town with its year round entertainment: guided tours of the medieval town, tour of the national stud farms, exhibitions at Gajac Museum, Comedy Festival Book Fairs, to name but a few. During summer, you can enjoy many concerts on the banks of the river Lot.

Pujols



A place to be seen!
The old medieval village of Pujols, officially registered as one of the ‘most beautiful villages in France’, looks down on Villeneuve sur Lot from its highest point of 180 meters above sea level.
At the northern entrance of the village, you can see the ramparts, remnants of the fortified place Baron Jean de Pujols built in the late XIIIth century.
It is also possible to see the fortified gateway built to protect the chapel (which later became St Nicolas church in the XIVth and XVth century), and the old timbered houses of the main street.

Monflanquin



This quaint little village is exceptionally well preserved. Located in the Lot et Garonne, only a few miles away from Dordogne, Montflanquin is also regione of the "most beautiful villages in France", and is a well appreciated destination for nature lovers and countryside holidays.

Penne d'Agenais



Formerly occupied by the Gallic people, Penne d'Agenais holds its name from the Celtic language, where "Penn" meant mountain ridge, it later became a medieval city. This village is full of history, everybody will enjoy their visit!
Take the path in the center of the village and let it take you to the top where you will discover Notre-Dame de Peyragude - a Marian sanctuary church, and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Lot valley.

Lastournelle Cave



Located in Sainte Colombe de Villeneuve in the middle of beautiful surroundings, the Lastournelle caves are a real treasure of the Aquitaine region.
These 25 million year old caves house a multitude of stalagtites and stalagmites, and their amazingly well preserved walls teach us about the unique geology of the Lot et Garonne area known as ‘the Serres country’. A wonderful visit 

The Water Lily Gardens



Come and take a stroll in the beautiful gardens, along the lake, and admire the old ponds and their water lilies.

Joseph Latour Marliac marked the history of botanic culture by creating the nymphea in these very same gardens, that later inspired Claude Monet for his famous painting ‘les nympheas’
This national collection of Nympheas is open from May to September.

Excisum Site



The north part of Villeneuve sur Lot is called the Eysses district. Here you can find this very interesting archeological site, located on the ancient site of Excisum, at the crossroads of two major roman roads: the first going from Bourges to Spain, the second one from Bordeaux to Lyon.
You can see the foundations of the theatre and the basilicum’s ‘Roman tower’. This place has also been an important military roman base, where many remains and equipments have been found.

The Foie Gras Museum



In the Souleilles farm, the foie gras museum is the only place in France where you can discover the complete history of foie gras, from the Egyptians up until modern times.
All your questions will be answered: how is it made? Is foie gras a disease? Why is it so abundant in the South West of France?
And at the end of the visit, you will be able to taste foie gras as well as other products from the farm.

The Prune Museum



The famous ‘pruneau d’Agen’ is the ‘black gold’ of Lot et Garonne.
Don’t miss the museum tour, tracing 150 year of the local prune industry, which is very entertaining and includes reenactment: One farm – three visits!
